If yes, why? Yes, because she was curious. Look if an owl invites you somewhere you gotta take it because it probably leads to some cool magical shit.
Will they need any special accommodations upon arrival? None

Character's History: Here

Character's Personality: Mae is a college dropout who's recently returned to her hometown of Possum Springs. Upon coming home, she immediately settles into the life of a carefree, former college student. She sleeps late into the afternoon, goes to parties and band practices with her friends, and the moment her mom brings up the possibility of looking for work, Mae immediately bails. Overall she tends to be an immature goofball, though her brand of humor can get a little morbid, and she often jokes around with her friends and family. Thanks to her late grandfather, she also has a fondness for ghost stories and seems to believe in the supernatural, being more quick to explain strange occurrences as the work of a ghost.

Mae is also snarky, impatient, and quick-tempered. She's gained a reputation for it throughout Possum Springs, but it's seen most whenever she starts to feel stressed or unhappy. When she goes to a cemetery with Bea to hunt a ghost, she's quick to get upset when they reach the ghost's assumed grave and nothing happens. Mae proceeds to vandalize the grave by jumping up and down on it. When her mom starts prying into Mae's reasons for leaving college, Mae gets upset and starts a huge fight with her, calling the Borowskis a "family of failures". But despite her temper or the fights she gets into, she's pretty quick to make up with someone as long as she likes or cares about them. The fight with her mom lasts about a day, and Mae ends up apologizing for it the next day. All of her fights with Bea, for example, end up with Mae being either quick to apologize and move on, or quick to forgive.

Mae tends to be impulsive and destructive, something she's gained a bad reputation for in Possum Springs. She even admits that she's done things like theft and vandalism. When she and Bea visit the Possum Springs equivalent of a Hot Topic, the first thing she does is shoplift and she talks Bea into doing it too. She does "crimes" with Gregg, such as stealing from an abandoned store, smashing up a car with a baseball bat, and breaking into a Historical Society. She's even more destructive and prone to lashing out when she's upset, such as when she hangs out with Gregg and Angus and has to deal with tension between the two throughout the night. When their tension ruins her evening, she trashes the bathroom of a restaurant they visit out of frustration.

Even with her temper, Mae does genuinely care about people and wants to help them. Her friends especially, but also those younger or weaker than her. Even though she gets the cold shoulder from a group of teens that hang out in an underground tunnel, she occasionally checks up on them and tells them to stay safe after a kidnapping happens in Possum Springs. She panics and chases after a mysterious kidnapper after seeing a kid get abducted at Harfest, and gets frustrated that no one seems to believe her that the kid went missing. She even steals food in order to take care of a group of young, feral rats living in an abandoned parade float. When she ends up injured after a run-in with some cultists, Mae ends up wandering away from her friends' house, despite being sick and weak, because she fears that they'll get hurt or die if they get further involved in her problems.

Mae is painfully awkward in social situations, and doesn't do well in large groups of people. She's oblivious to the things that she blurts out and tends to ramble in conversations. This leads to her oversharing information that ends up making other people uncomfortable. She brings up her grandfather's death out of nowhere at a party, and ends completely embarrassing Bea at said party while she was trying to talk to some college students. She's also gotten into a few fights with Bea because Mae sometimes doesn't realize when she's being insensitive to someone else's problems. An example of this is when Mae notices tension between Bea and her father, and tells Bea that she should either quit working at her dad's business or tell him off. Bea calls out Mae for not understanding the responsibilities she has to her family and that she can't just up and quit. And it's not just Bea, a lot of Mae's interactions with the people in her life show that she has a very naive understanding of the world around her. Despite her two years away at college, hasn't really done that much growing up. The people around her are struggling with joblessness, being stuck in dead-end jobs and struggling to make something of themselves, or feeling trapped in a town that's in financial decline. Mae, on the other hand, is still clinging to her past in Possum Springs. She wants to keep her relationship with her best friend Gregg the same, despite him needing to move on to better things. She doesn't understand why dropping out of college is upsetting to Bea, who wants more than anything to live out the life of a normal girl instead of someone buried under family responsibilities. Mae's shown to be upset whenever a store she used to go to closes down, because she wants the life that she left in Possum Springs to remain the same.

The reason why Mae seems to be so afraid of Possum Springs changing has a lot to do with her mental health, the reason behind a lot of her behavior. She confesses to either Gregg or Bea about an incident where she was playing a video game that she loved, and at some point, she suddenly stopped feeling any kind of emotional connection to the characters. She goes on to explain that things suddenly felt either "dead" or were "just shapes", suggesting that she developed a depersonalization disorder. Her dissociation was bad enough that it caused her to panic at a softball game, and attack a kid with a baseball bat. And while in college, she began to suffer from extreme anxiety and depression, which prompted to her to come home to the only place that felt safe and familiar - Possum Springs. Even when she comes home, she starts to have bouts of anxiety, especially when it comes to large groups of people.

Character Abilities: No magical abilities.

Player Opt-out/Opt-in Permissions post: n/a Mae doesn't have any magic.

TDM Sample Link: Link to TDM thread
(A minimum of 5 comments from your character are required)

Any comments or questions you would like us to know? Other than that, she's a normal (cat)girl.
Inventory: Gregg's bass from band practice.

🦋 Personality

Option 1: Answer the following questions. Elaborate on the answer, especially your characters thoughts and feelings surrounding the answer. For Canon Characters, you can choose four questions. For Original Characters, you will need to choose six questions. Keep the word count to 150-400 per question.

What mythological creature would your character most like to be? Which do they identify with? Which would they dread being? Feel free to use our Bestiary for reference.

Honestly? Mae would love to be any creature. She wouldn't dread any of them, because they all seem pretty awesome. Flying creature? She can fly now! Cool! Giant creature? She gets to feel tall for once in her life. Unicorn? She has a murder horn on her face. In all honestly, Mae probably identifies with being a beast even more than being her normal self. Beasts are cool and powerful, while she has no power and feels very powerless. Especially when she lives in a town that's fate is dictated by a cosmic horror "god" and a cult that worships it. And while she necessarily doesn't want to be feared, people know better than to try and mess with these beasts (well hopefully. If they don't they'll most likely get eaten), and Mae wouldn't mind that for herself. The only beasts she probably wouldn't care for is anything that looks small and/or weak. Because why would you wanna be something like that when you could be something cool-looking and powerful?

What song would a siren sing to your character to lure them closer? Why?

"I'm Just a Kid" by Simple Plan. Though she would absolutely insist the lyrics be changed to "I'm Just an Adult" because Mae has hang ups over being treated or referred to as a child. Anyway, the song is about people moving on without you, which Mae would feel strongly about. All of her friends have found their place in life, have dreams or plans, or just know what they want to do with their life. Mae isn't like this. She dropped out of college and came home, lives with her parents, and can't seem to hold down or get a job. She feels very lost and lonely in her life, where her friends seem to know what they're doing. Her friend Germ even invited her out to his house, something that he hasn't even offered to his best friend Gregg, because Gregg has "things figured out" and she doesn't and seems like she needs some time away from everything. In her case, her life seems to be a literal nightmare because she keeps having them and they're interrupting and messing with her waking life.

What is your character's most outstanding personality trait, and why?

Aggression. Mae gets very angry, though she never means to. A lot of her aggression comes from a lot of pent up frustration she has over her mental health issues. During the softball incident, where she beat Andy Cullen with a bat, she admits to being angry and scared because he didn't feel like a real person to her. That no one felt like a real person to her, and that everything in the universe was just dead stuff. Mae doesn't know how to cope with this issue, because she has no real support system. Her "therapist" is a hack doctor who tells her to suppress it, her family doesn't understand, and Mae never told her friends about it. So with no one there for her to help her through, she has no choice but to figure it out on her own. And her way of figuring it out is to be angry and frustrated all the time. Her approach to life is to be very reckless, because she has no other way of dealing with her emotions.

Your character gets to return home, but when they do they learn that they've been gone for hundreds of years. How do they react?

Honestly, this would give Mae a panic attack. Her friends and family would be gone, her hometown would be gone, and everything Mae ever knew would probably be different. Mae thrives in the familiar, and she relies on it to keep her sane. Without any of that well, she'd probably break down. Mae suffers from a dissociative disorder, and the only thing that keeps her breaking down is things that are familiar, which is why change is so hard on her. Her friends were the only thing keeping her together, and without them well... she wouldn't have any support for her mental health. Most likely, she'd completely shut down and go numb. She always knew there was a chance that her hometown would be gone in a few years, but she always thought she'd have a little more time to spend with her friends and family. Most likely, she would have nothing left and nowhere to go. And that would crush her completely. She doesn't want to be the only surviving member of her friends and family.

🦋 Fae Court

List your top three choices for your characters adoptive court. The mods will choose the one out of those three options that seems the most fitting based on your app.

Spring Court

Dawn Court

Day Court

Ability:
3) Yes, but they either have no ability of their own, or they refuse to trade theirs away; they will buy their court's ability on credit.

🦋 RP Samples

Sample 1
Sample 2

comments

She has a bad reputation back home for a Softball game incident in which Mae attacked and severely injured another player, though no one knows why. Mae tends to be very talkative, hyper, has a short attention span, and tends to do "crimes" which range from shoplifting to graffiti. Also, she tends to be insensitive, blind to other people's feelings, and has a naive view of how the world actually works. Mae deals with depersonalization disorder, in which things feel lifeless or just appear as "shapes" to her which scares her, and she admits to that being the reason she came home from college as she was struggling with mental health issues. And she also accidentally murdered an entire cult that worshipped a God that's been haunting her in her head for a while.
Power Summary: No powers
Heaven or Hell? Absolutely going to Hell
THREAD SAMPLE: Here
Anything Else? Sheep life!

comments

She tends to be immature, lazy, quick-tempered, and has a fondness for ghost stories because of her late grandfather, and has an interest in the supernatural. She tends to be quick-tempered, with a short attention span to boot, and rambles on when asked questions or just musing to herself.

She tends to have a pretty destructive personality, having been to therapy after an incident in her youth where she sent a kid to the hospital after beating him with a bat during a softball game. This ended up being because she has depersonalize or dissociative disorder where people and things just become lifeless "shapes" to her, causing her stress and anxiety. She also has dreams of the past and godlike beings, possibly being able to astral project.

She returns home from college because of these mental health issues, but it turns out there's more to Possum Springs than she remembers. After witnessing a "ghost" kidnapping, Mae investigates what's going on and discovers the town's local cult. Said cult is composed of older members of the town, who believe in sacrificing "worthless" people to a hole in the ground where the believe a cosmic being who can bring the town prosperity lies. Mae and her friends end up sealing the hole of the mine where the cult is, leaving their fate unknown.

Powers/abilities: No powers.

Inventory: Her clothing and journal

OTHER

Sentimental item: A WWI helmet that Gregg keeps as souvenir, has a bullet hole in it from where his great-grandfather supposedly shot it. Mae doesn't have any strong feelings towards the helmet, but she knows Gregg does, and she'll keep it as safe as possible to bring back to him.
Gemstone: Black opal, with red as a secondary color. It's small, and round, and the red spreads through the gem like a spiderweb.
Lost memory #1: The time she sent Andy Cullen to the hospital. This would not change her mental health issues, but it would erase the reputation she thinks she has in Possum Springs (and likewise her fears of this happening in a new place). She would most likely be a little unsure of why going to a new place scares her so much without the context of the softball game, until her mental health issues arise again.
Lost memory #2: The reason why she left college. The problem with shapes. This ties into losing memory #1, where she won't be sure why new places freak her out. She will just think she decided to drop out because she wasn't doing so hot and there wasn't any reason to stress out in the first place. Everything's fine!!
Altered memory: Getting drunk and fighting with Cole at the party in the woods. In the memory she still gets drunk, but instead of yelling at Cole, she thinks she kisses him while sloppy drunk and throws up on him. It's just as horrifying and embarrassing as what actually happens. She'll refuse to talk about it and threaten violence if anyone pushes her on this memory.

Sample: From her last game

comments

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: Immediate
Items: Her journal
Retained Ability: Astral Projection - at her most powerful she can project herself into a spirit-like world. In her weakened state, she can only manage being out of her body in her room if that works!

comments

Even when she comes home, she starts to have bouts of anxiety, especially when it comes to large groups of people.

Her mental health seems to be heavily influenced by a supernatural presence inside of her head. A cosmic, godlike being known as the "Black Goat" who lives in a hole at the center of Possum Springs. It's unknown how long the Black Goat has been part of Mae's life, but Mae seems to imply that it's been talking to her for a long time. Despite not being able to understand it, it seems to have an influence over Mae's mental health and causing her dissociation to get worse. At the end of Mae's story, she seems to have accepted its presence as something that she can't avoid or escape from, but plans to live her life as best as she can and make her life as worthwhile as possible.

Inventory: Gregg's bass that he loans to her during band practice.
Abilities: Mae is very acrobatic, despite saying that she's out of shape. She can walk along power line wires, as well jump on ledges of buildings that would be hard for a normal person to reach. She also has an ancient, godlike creature inside of her head known as the "Black Goat", which tries to reach out to and influence her. Mae is also very resistant to being electrocuted.
Flaws: Mae has a huge number of flaws that range from disrespecting authority, laziness, theft, vandalism, being short-tempered, violent, and incredibly insensitive to others. One incident that Mae is infamous for in Possum Springs is when Mae attacked a kid with a baseball bat during a softball game and sent him to the hospital.

SAMPLES
Action Log Sample:

Okay, Mae. Look at it this way. It could be a lot worse...

Mae Borowski was sitting near a lake, in a completely unfamiliar, underground city. Maybe it wasn't a good use of her time, staring out into a lake instead of trying to find her friends and get out of here. It was hard to tell where this place began and ended, and more importantly, she needed a place to collect her thoughts.

There could be dinosaurs down here? Like dinosaurs that escaped from the meteor that killed all of them and ended up here instead, but now they're like super intelligent and evil and probably really pissed off that they had to stay underground for like a million years.

Is that even a possibility? Mae didn't get the chance to really meet anyone here. More specifically, she took off as soon as she could before anyone had a chance to talk to her. It probably would've helped her figure out what's going on, but she panicked, and she ran. It was a little too overwhelming, in a big open area with lots and lots of unfamiliar faces, and just a moment ago they were fighting something. She couldn't even tell what it was, she was too busy running and trying to protect Gregg's bass from breaking. It was too much. Too much danger, too many unfamiliar faces, a huge underground cave...

... She doesn't do well with caves anymore, she thinks. At least by the lake, it looked a little less like a giant underground death trap and more like a night sky. She could deal with that, pretending she could see constellations in the sky if she looked hard enough.

What am I gonna do now? This place is like... no, no Mae. They're probably not here. It doesn't even look like the mine. You'd be dead if it was.

"Bea, Gregg, Angus... stay safe for me, okay? I'll find you guys soon."

comments
